The Imperial looms in St Petersburg produced both tapestries and carpets. Western style Russian carpets originated in the 18th century and include so-called Ukrainian pile carpets, and continue through the 19th and 20th centuries. Flat woven tapestry carpets were produced in Bessarabia - Moldavia.
