Flat Weave
Flat-woven carpets can be as formal and elaborate as the slit-tapestry woven masterpieces from the Royal Aubusson workshops in France or as hypnotic as the powerfully simple color-blocked warp faced kilims woven in 16th century Turkey. This diversity includes the brocaded flatweaves of the Caucasus, the Safavid kilims of 16th century Iran and the baroque floral kilims of 19th century Bessarabia.
Historically associated with warm climates and often viewed as summer carpets, flat weaves are increasingly popular in today’s interiors whatever the weather, where a minimalist texture can deliver effortless chic.
