Central Asia

This region, at the cross roads between the Far East and the Near East and the West, absorbed influences from multiple trade routes.  Central Asia is well known for the extraordinary woven textiles of the Mongol period.  It is also familiar for its distinctive dowry embroideries, known as Susanis.  Most are safely dated to the nineteenth century but it is likely that many examples actually date from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
