Covers Curtains Hangings
Curtains for windows and beds provided an opportunity to design large scale and opulent textiles for professionals and amateurs alike. Likewise, wall panels and portieres as alternatives to tapestries were popular from the sixteenth century. Suites of valences, usually designed for the top rail of a bed, created scope to depict complex narratives.
