Seat Covers Upholstery

Woven silk, and hand embroidered needlework covers using coloured wools and silks became increasingly important on seat furniture - settees, chairs and stools. The covers were often more time consuming to produce than the chairs themselves. Fine examples of embroidered upholstery often combined gros point and petit point stitches to create elaborate designs. The harmony between a chair with original period and purpose-designed covers produces a wonderful pairing.  We specialize in acquiring eighteenth century needlework covers for seat furniture where the original upholstery has since been lost or worn away.
